Deciding on the best chocolate fudge is not easy to do.  There are so many great local fudge makers out there that you or I will never have a chance to try.  Naming someone as having the best chocolate fudge without tasting these is a bit hollow, but in the interest of those out there trying to find new fudge to try I will try to pick one to the best of my ability.  Personally I think that my fathers fudge is the best chocolate fudge you can get, but since you have no chance of every trying that I will have to pick a fudge that everyone can get.

Deciding on the Best Chocolate Fudge

There are several criteria to being considered as the world’s best chocolate fudge.  The first is the chocolate flavor.  The fudge must have a strong chocolate flavor to it, but it can not be too overpowering.  Strong enough to give you a true taste of chocolate without being so bitter that it burns is the key to great chocolate fudge.  This careful balance is very difficult to achieve and in order to be considered the world’s best chocolate fudge you have to do this perfectly.

Next up is texture.  The texture of the fudge should be smooth and silky, not at all chalky or rough.  It should hold its shape and stand up to heat well without falling apart.  It should not be waxy, but rather creamy and smooth.  This is very difficult to achieve especially for commercial fudge.  For the chocolate be able to hold up and have a solid consistent texture through shipping is not something that every fudge maker can do.  There are many types of fudge that taste and feel great right after they are made, but quickly lose this if left to sit.
