Other popular foods that are served in most of the regions include stews, sausages such as chorizo and morcilla, chick peas, green beans, lentils and breads.
Popular desserts in Spain include items such as flan, rice pudding, torrijas, madeleines as well as churros. When venturing into a Spanish restaurant, you might want to order some of the popular Spanish foods such as calamari (fried squid), arroz con Leche, Gooseneck barnacles, a tasty bean stew known as Fabada Asturiana or varieties of shellfish.
If you venture over to the Extremadura region make sure you try the olla podrida — a very tasty stew which consists of poultry, bacon, meats as well as vegetables. If you end up in Navarra, try their vegetable stews which are very popular Spanish foods in the region or perhaps try some piquillos which are peppers typically filled with meats. If you are visiting Valencia make sure you taste their famous versions of Paella.
La Rioja, Madrid And Basque
The La Rioja region is well known for its popular Spanish foods such as vegetable soups and potato dishes. Popular menu items found in Madrid include a variation of chickpea stew, and a dish made from tripe known as callos a la madrilène. If you travel to the Basque region you might want to taste a dish called txangurro relleno made from spider crabs and while you are there try a slice of Idiazabal cheese.
