Basic Cooking Utensils For Every Kitchen
There are many different kinds of cooking utensils that are useful for everyday cooking. These cooking utensils are necessary to creating food that you love to eat and your family will appreciate.
Can Opener and Heavy Duty Scissors
This is one of the most taken for granted cooking utensils around and yet without this we cannot eat a decent meal if it comes in a can. Some can openers come with a bottle opener as well while others are already electronic. Heavy duty scissors are great for cutting thick vegetables, meats and even light bones.
Knives, Spoons And Forks
These very common cooking utensils are basic needs in the kitchen. Knives are used to chop, fillet, dice and slice food and vegetables while the spoons and forks are used to cook, taste and test the foods. Spoons are also used to form balls of food when cooking meatballs or like foods and also to mix certain foods. Forks are also necessary to pierce the skin of potatoes, carrots or other vegetables.
Peelers, Graters and Mashers or Presses
Peelers are cooking utensils used to pare off the light skins of vegetables and fruits. Graters are cooking utensils for shredding vegetables, cheese and other products. Some graters come in different design patterns and grating sizes. Potato mashers are used for mashed potatoes while presses are usually used for pressing garlic segments.
Spatulas, Slotted Spoons And Whisks
These cooking utensils are used for many different purposes. The spatula is commonly used to mix and clean out containers. Slotted spoon are used to scoop out food items that you might not need soup with. The slots in the bottom of the spoon drain the liquid from the food when you scoop it out. A whisk is needed to efficiently mix foods which may be lumpy or congealed.
Strainers, Sieves and Colanders
These cooking utensils have the same basic function which is to separate bigger food items from smaller ones. They all drain foods of their liquid and keep the bigger forms of food.
Tongs
Tongs are basic cooking utensils that one can encounter in almost every kitchen. They are used to hold on to hot items of food (usually the grill or the pan). Tongs are also sometimes used to mix a salad together as well as handle other food items from the dish to the plate.
The listed cooking utensils are basics which one can find in common kitchens. They are necessary cooking utensils in creating dishes for guests and family members.
