All About Cooking Ham
Ham is the main dish that many people cook for the Holidays or for a large family get together. And while it is a simple main course to prepare and cook, cooking ham seems to be something that a lot of people fear as they are afraid they will ruin it. Of course, the high price of a nice sized ham is probably the reason for the entire fuss over cooking ham. While there are many reasons to start cooking ham according to the directions, there are even many more reasons to starting cooking ham in a nice recipe so that there is more flavor.
You never know, depending on how you go about cooking ham, you may end up serving your guests the best tasting ham they have ever had. There are many different recipes that are on the Internet waiting for you to try. If you do not have a lot of experience in cooking ham, you may want to practice a little before the big Holiday meal. You can easily pick up very small hams for about eight or ten dollars each so that you can experiment with different recipes to see which one you like the best and which one is the easiest for you to make.
Traditional Touches
You may want to speak to some people in your family to see how they go about cooking ham and maybe there is a recipe that has been passed down and used in the family for generations and you may want to try your luck at that. Cooking ham does not need to be stressful and to help relax you a little; there are certain things that are traditionally added in a lot of households when cooking ham. There is of course the beer that a lot of people use to baste their ham in. Adding beer gives it a very moist taste but do not worry, you will not taste the beer nor end up drunk from it.
Also, a lot of people will spread and smother brown sugar on the top and the sides of the ham. This will add just the right amount of sweetness when cooking ham. And then there is the ever-traditional pineapple slices on top. When finishing up, you could try placing a few pineapple slices on top of the ham and hold them down with tiny little toothpicks. This also helps with flavor and a lot of people tend to like eating the ham-flavored pineapple.
