A Guide to Italian Cuisine
Italian cooking is truly among the richest and most varied anywhere, and these are a just a few reasons why it is so popular around the world. Italian cuisine is one which has evolved incredibly over centuries of social and political change, and definitely one that any cook should be experienced in.
You can really never go wrong when you are cooking Italian cuisine, but there are a few rules that you will want to follow to ensure that you create the best dishes and atmosphere possible for yourself and your guests.
Entrees
The entrees are always the most major part of any meal, and the same applies to Italian cuisine. One of the best meats to include in an entrée is lamb, as this is one of the most favored meats of Italian cuisine in general.
One of the most important things to remember when you are cooking lamb is that you want to let the meat braise, and also to include rosemary which is one of lamb’s most complimentary flavors. Also, at the end of the cooking process you should have the evaporating liquid and the flour combined to reduce to a sauce of good consistency.
Veal is another meat often included in Italian dishes, and pounding the meat flat before cooking is one of the tricks here. Most authentic Italian chefs also lay the meat between two sheets of cling film in order to protect the flesh. This is not necessary but is a good idea, and once the meat is ready you want to bread it by coating it with flour then dipping it in egg and then breadcrumbs.
Desserts
Desserts are a very important part of Italian cuisine. There are a few desserts in particular that are very popular in Italy and considered as being authentic Italian desserts. One is biscotti, which are thick brittle cookies that are usually dipped in coffee or wine when eaten. Cannoli is another favored Italian dessert, and is actually considered as being one of the most popular of all Italian desserts in the United States.
Italian cuisine is decadent, delectable, and delicious, and one of the oldest in the world as well. Ingredients and dishes vary greatly by region, and there are many significant regional dishes that have actually become both national and regional. Cheese and wine of course play a major role in most Italian dishes, and tend to play different roles both regionally and nationally with their many variations.
